Dr. Wahlen attended Brigham Young University-Idaho for his undergraduate studies, after which he completed his Medical School training at the William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.


After 4 years in Chicago, Dr. Wahlen completed his 3-year surgical residency at Oakwood Healthcare in Detroit, MI. While in residency Dr. Wahlen was able to win multiple research awards, including 1st place in resident research in the State of Michigan. Dr. Wahlen has sought after the best training possible as a foot/ankle/and leg surgeon. For this reason he completed a one year fellowship in Advanced Foot, Ankle and Leg Reconstructive Surgery for Lower Extremity Deformity, Sports Medicine and Trauma at the New Mexico Bone and Joint Institute.


Dr. Wahlen is nearing is Board Certification with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery having successfully passed both board exams in Foot Reconstructive Surgery, and Rearfoot & Ankle Reconstructive Surgery. He sits for board certification spring of 2019 after having submitted hundreds of surgical cases.


Dr. Wahlen has served the Eastern New Mexico/West Texas region for the past 3 ½ years at Plains Regional Medical Center in the surgical specialties clinic. He has done thousands of procedures of the foot and ankle most notably, Dr. Wahlen was the first in Clovis to perform ankle joint replacement surgery, an advanced surgical procedure that replaces the ankle joint with an implant.


Dr. Wahlen prides himself in his high patient satisfaction, while at PRMC in Clovis, he always maintained a patient satisfaction score higher than 93% and is rated at 99% at Cannon Air Force base among specialty referrals.


When not at work, Dr. Wahlen loves to spend time with his wife and their 4 young children. Hiking together in southeastern New Mexico has been the family favorite.


Dr. Wahlen enjoys running and completed the Chicago Marathon in 2009 and the Ann Arbor Half marathon in 2013.


Dr. Wahlen grew up on a family farm in Idaho and loves living in Eastern New Mexico.
